Heather McCornack is the the music director for the theatre department's productions of Spring Awakening and Peter and the Starcatcher this academic year. She is the collaborative pianist for the K-State Collegiate Chorale and teaches Introduction to the Broadway Musical and History of Country Music. She also teaches Yoga for Restoration, available to all students through the dance department.
Ms. McCornack holds degrees from the University of WI-Eau Claire(BM Voice Performance) and Kansas State University(MM Voice Performance with an emphasis on voice pedagogy). She has performed in musicals on stages throughout the midwest and in California. Her show at Transcendence Theatre Company in Sonoma, CA won the Broadway.com award for Best Family Show in the San Francisco Bay area in 2016. Favorite roles include: Cinderella(Into the Woods), Roxie Hart(Chicago), Julie(Carousel), Fiona(Brigadoon). She has appeared in television commercials and print modeling for companies that include Best Buy, Creative Memories, and Argosy University.
Ms. McCornack is an accomplished collaborative pianist and music director and frequently accompanies master classes, auditions, and musicals. In addition to Chorale, she is the collaborative pianist for the Flint Hills Youth Choirs. She serves as one of the directors for Summer Choral Institute at K-State, Konza Music Academy, and the summer Musical Theatre Camp at K-State.
Ms. McCornack is an active member of NATS and has a private voice studio where she teaches all styles of singing, with a focus on working with musical theatre singers of all ages. She teaches trauma informed voice care and some of her teaching practices were recently published in, "Trauma and the Voice: A Guide for Singers, Teachers, and Other Practitioners," edited by Emily Jaworski Koriath.
Ms. McCornack is a registered yoga teacher with certifications in yoga for singers, for people with eating disorders, people in trauma recovery, and accessible yoga.
