Jana Thomas has spent 20+ years in marketing, advertising, and communications, working in dynamic, fast-paced industries while creating integrated brand strategies for large brands such as DIRECTV, Geek Squad, Penske, FASTSIGNS International, and Cinergy Entertainment. Over half of her industry career has been focused on digital media, in areas such as digital findability, search engine and mobile marketing, and paid and organic social media. She also owns a social media consulting and training company, specializing in film and family entertainment brands, as well as employee training in social media strategy and content development.
In the A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication, Jana teaches courses in social media strategy, social media management, digital brand strategy, content creation, advertising, multi-media campaign development, Ad & PR writing, and media audiences. She is also the Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives and oversees the Digital Innovation in Media degree program and the Social Media Management Certificate.
Jana earned her Master’s of Science in Strategic Communications from Kansas State University and is currently working on her doctorate in Leadership Communication. She conducts research in the areas of adolescent media use, digital citizenship, and social media manager well-being.
