2019 Scholars

December 10: Clara Wicoff, senior in agricultural economics, received a 2020 Marshall Scholarship which provides full funding for one or two years of graduate study in the U.K. She is now the 15th Kansas State University student to be awarded with a Marshall Scholarship.

November 22: Scott Hazelton, Brennan Walter, and Amber Berg, all master's students in Regional & Community Planning, receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship program helps to develop the transportation workforce. Each recipient will receive a stipend, tuition support and the opportunity to attend the 2020 Transportation Research Board annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

November 7: Two graduate students in civil engineering receive the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Graduate Fellowship: Elliot Schrag, master's student; and Jack Cunningham, doctoral student.

August 29: Two students received Gilman Scholarship to study abroad. Elshaddai Abamegal, senior in mechanical engineering, will travel to the Czech Republic. Kayla Craigmile, sophomore in anthropology, Spanish and international studies, will be travel to Greece.

June 29: Macy Davis, May 2019 graduate in English Literature, has been awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship in support of her first year of graduate study. Each university can only nominate one student for national consideration for this prestigious Fellowship.

May 16: Three students were selected as 2019 Goldwater Scholars: Erianna Basgall, junior in biochemistry; Mackenzie Thornton, junior in microbiology and pre-health; and Gabrielle Phillips, senior in chemical engineering.

May 15: Kayley Brethour, sophomore in entrepreneurship, was selected as one of 10 2019 Cargill Global Scholars for the U.S.

May 14: Three K-State students recognized by NSF Graduate Research Fellowship program. Sydni Huxman, senior in psychological sciences, Mikaela Rader, graduate student in geology, and Kelsey Panfil, graduate student in behavior neuroscience all received honorable mentions.

May 14: Emme Mount, junior in physical science and global food systems leadership was awarded the Gilman Scholarship. Mount will be in New Zealand for a two-week expedition where she will complete three case studies. She will also have a four-week internship to learn more about conservation, organic farming, community outreach and resource management.

May 13: Three students receive Fulbright awards to study or teach abroad. Jakob Hanschu, senior in anthropology and geography, will attend the University of Nottingham to study critical theory and politics. Sarah Marek, senior in secondary education, German and Spanish, will teach at a high school in Germany. Hannah Harker, master's student in second language acquisition-Spanish, will teach English and attend classes in Montevideo, Uruguay.

May 6: Udall foundation recognizes two K-State students for the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. Prerona Kundu, junior in mechanical engineering, and MacKenzie Cline, junior in biological systems engineering, both received honorable mentions.

April 12: Congratulations to Clara Wicoff, junior in agricultural economics. She has been recognized as a Truman Scholar for 2019, one of only 62 students nationally. The Truman scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate study to students committed to future careers in public service. Clara is Kansas State University's 35th Truman Scholar.

March 20: Two K-Staters have been awarded the Critical Language Scholarship which fully funds intensive summer language study in languages deemed critical to international relations. Lauren Ailslieger sophomore in open option, will study Russian in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Katelyn Tietzen, doctoral student in history, will study Arabic in Amman, Jordan.
