Undergraduate Research Amplification Project
URAP offers 10 students funding for their student-led research projects for one year. This program is funded by K-State Student Governing Association (SGA). Learn more about URAP at this link.

Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE)
K-INBRE supports undergraduates participating in biomedical research. Visit the K-INBRE Funding Opportunities and Awards website at this link for more information on the different programs.
Freshmen K-INBRE Research Scholars
- This program is intended for first-year students who are interested in careers in biomedical research. Currently being in a lab is NOT required. Accepted students will be assisted in finding a lab if they are not already part of one. Students are awarded up to $3,600 for a commitment of 300 hours per year. Email Dr. Sherry D. Kirmser Undergraduate Research Award
The Kirmser Undergraduate Research Award is for students (individual and groups) who completed a research project for a K-State course during the current school year and incorporated library resources. Learn more about the Kirmser award at this link.
- Individual award: $1,000
- Group award: Up to $1,000 per student
Mark Chapman Scholars Program
The Mark Chapman Scholars program aids College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students as they pursue meaningful summer projects or activities related to their future career goals. Students are awarded $5,000 ($3,000 in funding for the summer experience; $2,000 for the following academic year). Students must be in their first or second year at K-State. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs)
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds research opportunities for undergraduate students through the REU program. Participants are granted stipends and often assistance with housing and travel. Visit the NSF REU website at this link for more information and a search engine.
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU): Gulf Coastal Plain Ecology at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory
- Located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, this summer opportunity focuses on the ecology of the Gulf Coastal Plain, a biologically rich and ecologically important area of the country that is also home to large populations of students underrepresented in science. UndocuSTEM
- Explore the UndocuSTEM websit at this link for a list of STEM research opportunities for undocumented undergraduates. All of these research programs run during a 8-10 week summer session and typically provide a stipend (often $3000-$7000), lodging, meals, and/or travel expenses.
