Jessica Tierney to present 'Past Climates Inform our Future'

Submitted by Karin Goldberg

The geology department will host a virtual talk by Jessica Tierney, professor of geosciences and the Thomas R. Brown Distinguished Chair in Integrative Science at the University of Arizona, at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.

Tierney specializes in reconstructing past climate change using molecular biomarker methods and statistical techniques so that we can better understand future climate change.

As humans burn fossil fuels and raise the concentration of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, the climate is changing — and fast. All around us, we are experiencing climate change in the form of hotter temperatures and more extreme weather events, including droughts, floods and heat waves.

Tierney is a speaker in the AGU Distinguished Lecture Series. Her talk, "Past Climates Inform our Future," will discuss the lessons of the past that can directly inform our future climate trajectory, giving us a glimpse of how the planet will behave along different emissions scenarios.

Please register to attend Tierney's talk via Zoom. Upon registration, participants will receive the link to access the meeting.
