K-State engineering students earn prestigious scholarship

Submitted by CS Office

Five computer science students are recipients of the CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service: Matthew Kelley, Manhattan; Caden McNeal, Olathe; Ben Keller, Overland Park; Justin Sanders, Shawnee; and Sophia Healy- Phoenix, Arizona.

CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service is a unique program designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure. The program provides scholarships that fully fund the typical costs that students pay for, including books and tuition, while attending an approved institution of higher learning. Additionally, participants receive stipends throughout the scholarship period. The scholarships are funded through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation.

The service portion of the scholarship requires employment at federal, state, local or tribal government for a period of time commensurate with the number of years the scholarship is awarded. K-State graduates have historically been hired by National Labs, Army, Navy, Air Force and other Department of Defense agencies. They are the front line of our national defense against electronic threats.
