On Friday, Oct. 14, author Dantiel Moniz will read from her work at 3:30 p.m. on Zoom.

The event is free and open to the public with advance registration at tinyurl.com/monizkstate.

Moniz is the recipient of a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 Award, a Pushcart Prize, a MacDowell Fellowship and the Alice Hoffman Prize for Fiction.

Moniz's debut collection, "Milk Blood Heat," is the winner of a Florida Book Award and was a finalist for the PEN/ Jean Stein Award, the PEN/ Robert W. Bingham Prize, and the New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award. It is an inaugural Roxane Gay Audacious Book Club pick and has been hailed as must-read by TIME, Entertainment Weekly, Buzzefeed and Elle.

Published in the U.S. in 2021, the collection was also published in the U.K. and is forthcoming in Italy, Germany and Poland.

Moniz's writing has appeared in the Paris Review, Harper's Bazaar, American Short Fiction, and Tin House, among other venues. She currently serves as an assistant professor of English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she teaches fiction.

"Dantiel Moniz writes rich, deep stories about girls and women, about people veering toward or running away from experiences that will shape their lives," said Dan Hoyt, professor of English and creative writing. "These stories are smart and vivid and draw intimate pictures of couples and families, of the power and frailty of the human body."

The reading is sponsored by the department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Student Governing Association's DEI Committee.
