College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Lecture Series Oct. 24

Submitted by College of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences invites K-State faculty, staff and students to a lecture by Edmund February from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union as part of the Diversity Lecture Series. Attend the lecture virtually through the Zoom link

February is a prominent botanist, human rights advocate and mountain climber from Cape Town, South Africa. The lecture, "From Apartheid to diversity in South Africa," will address February's experience with education, class and power during and after the Apartheid in South Africa.

"This is a personal journey of someone with a doctorate who did not leave the country," February said. "Ordinary people with a will to succeed can triumph over centuries of racism and prejudice."

February has been a prominent botanist and professor at the University of Cape Town for more than 20 years. He was an advocate for human rights and equality during and after the apartheid era in South Africa.

He is also known as one of South Africa's most iconic and prominent mountain climbers. He has climbed Mount Everest and been on the opening ascent of more than 200 routes.
