Boxx honored by K-State Global Campus

Submitted by Ashley Nietfeld

Christina Boxx has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 K-State Global Campus Extraordinary Student award.

The extraordinary student award recognizes an online student who has overcome an obstacle in the path of their education and who demonstrates academic excellence, focus and career ambition in their studies at K-State.

Boxx is a student in the online master's degree in psychology with an emphasis in industrial and organizational psychology and is completing the program while balancing a full-time job as a research data coordinator. In her first year, she worked full-time, 12-hour night shifts as a nursing assistant and provided eldercare for her grandfather in addition to completing her graduate coursework, yet still finds time to participate in the elective events the master's industrial and organizational psychology program provides, such as optional synchronous class meetings and a research group.

"Christina has faced one challenge after another in her efforts to complete her undergraduate and graduate degrees," said Sarina Maneotis, a professor for the master's industrial and organizational psychology program who nominated Boxx. "Despite all of the hurdles she has faced, she is a compassionate, curious and overall wonderful person. She never uses her challenges as an excuse and always puts forth her best effort. She is a top-performing student in our program and often goes above and beyond what we expect for our students."

"Seeing the hard work, perseverance and ultimate successes of our online students is what inspires those of us who work at universities," said Karen Pedersen, dean of K-State Global Campus. "I am pleased to honor Christina for her accomplishments and am eager to see the great things she does in the future."
