Human Development and Family Science Association names officers, hosts 'Connection Carnival' today

Submitted by Elaine Johannes

The Human Development and Family Science Association launches its 2020-2021 school year with a come-and-go "Connection Carnival" from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Hoffman Lounge of Justin Hall.

The event, which follows the university's COVID-19 health and safety requirements, will give students currently involved in or interested in the human development and family science program an opportunity to meet program faculty and staff, receive a self-care hygge — hoo-ga — kit, and connect with HDFSA officers Abbie Kummer, junior in human development and family Science, Colby; Jayme Hay, junior from Manhattan; Kaitlyn Davitt, senior from Overland Park, and Tiana Sothers, junior from Belleville.

The association provides students in the human development and family science program with peer support, networking opportunities and connections to human service professions. For the spring 2021 semester, the association will offer networking meetings, volunteering opportunities and social events that will keep the health and safety of its members in mind. During the upcoming semester break, a virtual book club, using the book "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandberg, is being planned for association members.

Human development and family science is a broad and dynamic field, and the Human Development and Family Science Association helps its members discover meaningful careers in helping professions and explore graduate programs. Contact Abbie Kummer, association president, at abbie@k-state.edu, or Kaitlyn Davitt, association communication chair, at kadavitt@k-state.edu, for information about membership and activities.
