Open enrollment in October, K-State benefits fair and flu shot clinic through Lafene

Submitted by Human Capital Services - Benefits

The month of October is typically known as the month for health insurance open enrollment for K-State employees. In October, employees will need to log in to their State Employee Health Plan MAP portal to elect their health insurance plan for 2021. Employees will also have the ability to elect optional group life insurance as well.

The university is still in Phase 3 of the Reopening Plan, which limits mass gatherings to 50 or fewer individuals, so the benefits fair will not take place this year. Employees will receive open enrollment communication through similar ways they have in the past. Announcements will be made in K-State Today, a webinar will be made available by the State Employee Health Benefits Plan, and enrollment reminders will be sent directly to employees. The State Employee Health Benefits Plan has recently increased its communications and we believe this will also continue during the open enrollment period.

A popular component of the benefits fair is the flu shot clinic offered by Lafene Health Center. While this won't happen during the benefits fair, Lafene has alternative avenues for employees and students to obtain their flu shot. Getting a flu vaccine every year provides the best protection against the flu. Although the flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, getting a flu vaccine during 2020-21 will be more important than ever.

An appointment for a flu vaccination at Lafene Health Center can be made on the myLafene+ patient portal or by calling Lafene Health Center at 785-532-6544.

Lafene Health Center will host walk-in clinics in the K-State Student Union Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23, 24 and 25. No appointment is necessary for the walk-in clinics. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to stop by. Bring your student or staff ID and any insurance information. The cost is covered by most insurance companies — including the State Employee Health Plan — but if not, the cost for students is $22 and the cost for faculty and staff is $25.
