Save the date for Wildcat Dialogues 2020

Submitted by Debra J. Bolton

Save the date for Wildcat Dialogues 2020, an intercultural leadership experience for first-year students at Kansas State University.

The event, scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom, is for K-State students in their first year. We encourage you to share this event and date with your students as you plan toward the fall semester.

Wildcat Dialogues, sponsored by the Staley School of Leadership Studies, Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Student Governing Association brings together all first-year K-State students for a night of deliberate conversation to build intentional connections for intercultural learning and inclusive leadership development. Please note that the committee continues to work on a virtual contingency plan as we look to reduce large, face-to-face gatherings.

Following the event on Sept. 21, the committee has planned a series of mini-dialogues throughout the year for opportunities to continue the learning and conversation.

Wildcat Dialogues begins its third year and would not be possible without the collaboration of many campus partners and students. If you are interested in being part of Wildcat Dialogues we invite you to join in one of the three of the following capacities.

  • Serve on the planning committee — comprised of faculty, staff and students — that meet to organize and promote the event, as well as recruit and train small group facilitators.
  • Volunteer to serve as a small group dialogue facilitator — training provided.
  • Collaborate on a mini-dialogue during the 2020-2021 academic year. For example, if you are hosting an event that includes a focus on intercultural learning, partner with Wildcat Dialogues trained facilitators for a mini-dialogue after the event to share learning and reflections.

Please email Debra Bolton at dbolton@k-state.edu or Tamara Bauer at tamara@k-state.edu if you, or someone from your unit, is interested in serving in any of the capacities listed above or if you have any questions.
