First Difficult Dialogues session to focus on mental health in the classroom

Submitted by Bryan Samuel

In collaboration with the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies and the K-State Teaching and Learning Center, I am pleased to announce our first session of the Difficult Dialogues series.

Difficult Dialogues was created to help faculty make progress on their knowledge and skill in facilitating difficult conversations in the classroom when difficult or challenging topics arise. This lunch and learn series will be piloted for 2019-2020 year and cover topics such as mental health, race and ethnicity, gender sexual orientation and identity, political divide/current events. Faculty are invited to join us for these active sessions that will enhance their skills to facilitate a discussion on a controversial topic.

The first Difficult Dialogue, presented by Wendy Barnes, outreach coordinator for K-State Counseling Services, will focus on "Mental Health: When A Student Takes Their Life by Suicide." The session will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Cottonwood Room of the K-State Student Union. Registration is required and lunch will be provided.
