Movies on the Grass free film series has started

Submitted by Charlene Brownson

Movies on the Grass, a free outdoor film series, offers the campus and community new documentaries that portray current issues in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome to attend these free events.

The 2019 schedule:

  • "Salam Neighbor," 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building. "'Salam Neighbor' is an award-winning feature documentary and campaign to connect the world to refugees. The goal is to tell the stories of our refugee neighbors with the dignity they deserve and the depth the world needs. Together let's seek understanding instead of accepting stereotypes and take action instead of sitting idly by. What's your first step?" — from the Living One on One website. The filmmaker of "Salam Neighbor," Zach, will give a 20-minute introduction via Zoom.
  • "RiverBlue," 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Sunset Zoo, 2333 Oak St. The zoo will be open at 5 p.m. with free admission. "Can fashion save the planet? Through awareness, we evolve. Following international river conservationist, Mark Angelo, "RiverBlue" spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world's most pollutive industries, fashion. Narrated by clean water supporter Jason Priestley, this groundbreaking documentary examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future" — from "RiverBlue" website. Emily Pascoe, graduate student teaching assistant in the College of Health and Human Services' apparel, textiles, and interior design department, will introduce the film and led the film discussion.
