Take Back Our Lives rally and march tonight

Take Back Our Lives 2019 Flyer

The Take Back Our Lives rally and march, led by American ethnic studies department student organization FIRE, will be at 6 p.m. today on the K-State Student Union terrace.

"Take Back Our Lives" is FIRE's adaptation of "Take Back the Night," an international event organized annually across the country to protest sexual, domestic and relationship violence. FIRE changed the name of the event to reflect the growing awareness that gender and sexual violence operates through the state-sanctioned violences of racism, poverty, militarism, settler-colonialism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, mass incarceration, mass deportations and detentions, to name just a few. "Take Back Our Lives" marks our current political moment as a fight against all the weaponry used to take us from our selves. Most importantly, however, the event announces a joyful commitment to win this fight together.

The event will begin with an open mic rally on the terrace of the Union, followed by a march through Aggieville, and conclude with a block party back at the Union terrace where participants can enjoy more open mic time, spoken word, poetry, dancing and music. All are welcome.

Thank you to American ethnic studies and the gender, women, and sexuality studies departments for co-sponsoring this event.
