Kansas Board of Regents May meeting agenda items

Submitted by Cindy Bontrager

Dear campus community,

The Kansas Board of Regents will meet May 16 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The board will consider the following agenda items during the meeting.

The Regents will act on fund investment lineup changes in the board's mandatory retirement plan. The Retirement Plan Committee recommended three fund lineup changes for Voya. If approved, Voya will inform affected participants of the changes.

State universities report the accreditation status of the institution and all accredited programs to the Regents each year. Since there is little variance from year to year, the Regents will act on amendments to the accreditation policy to reduce the frequency of the reports from annually to once every four years and when accreditation status adversely changes.

The Regents will receive program review reports for academic year 2016-2017. Board policy requires the board to maintain a program review cycle and a review process that allows each university to demonstrate that it is delivering quality programs consistent with its mission. The reviews assure the university continues to offer rigorous and relevant curricula. K-State reviewed 18 programs representing the College of Agriculture and College of Veterinary Medicine. All programs were recommended to continue.

The Regents will receive the annual system enrollment report. The full report will be available on the Regents' website.

All state universities submitted fiscal year 2019 tuition and fee proposals for first reading. The Regents will take final action on tuition and fees at the June meeting. Proposals will be made public on May 16 following the Regents discussion.

The Regents will receive the fiscal year 2020 capital improvement requests and five-year plans for first reading. Capital improvement projects include new buildings, remodeling or alterations, annual maintenance and utility projects for which costs exceed $1 million. View the projects.

The Regents will approve the fiscal year 2019 Johnson County Education Research Triangle Authority, or JCERTA, budgets. The JCERTA legislation was approved by the 2007 Legislature and in November 2008, Johnson County voters approved a 1/8 cent sales tax to support three projects at the University of Kansas, the University of Kansas Medical Center and Kansas State University. Funds for K-State support research and education programs in animal health and food safety and security at K-State Olathe.

Matt Casey, director of government relations, will update the Regents on the 2018 legislative session.

The Regents will elect the fiscal year 2019 board chair and vice chair.
