Committees and Representatives
Graduate students from diverse disciplines serve on GSC committees and represent the graduate student body on university committees and in the Student Governing Association as senators. These students contribute their time, skills, and passion to carryout the Graduate Student Council's initiatives to enhance the graduate student experience and prepare graduate students for various career paths.
Committees
Assists the Graduate School with coordination of annual research forum events and professional development seminars/workshops. Research forums responsibilities include reviewing presentation abstracts, creating abstract program booklets, recruiting judges, recruiting volunteers to assist at the event, helping with tasks at the event (e.g., set-up, check-in, processing judge scores). Professional development events responsibilities include assisting with execution of events, tracking participation in events, coordinating professional development certificate distribution.
The goal of this committee is to expand the contributions graduate students make to support fellow graduate students, the K-State community, and the surrounding community. This committee is responsible for identifying or developing opportunities for graduate students to engage in volunteer or service activities. Engaging graduate students in these activities helps to increase visibility of the graduate student population, exposes graduate students to experiences that enrich their academic and personal lives, and helps graduate students expand their professional network.
This committee is responsible for planning 2-4 graduate student social events each semester to bring together graduate students from across disciplines. Social events provide graduate students a mental break from academic responsibilities and are an opportunity for building community with peers in a variety of disciplines.
Awards and Recognition is a standing committee within the GSC. The committee works together to recognize graduate students for their achievements and contributions to research, scholarship, and teaching at K-State.
The fundraising committee coordinates events to raise funds for supporting GSC operating expenses.
Public Relations is a standing committee within the GSC. This committee is responsible for promoting GSC initiatives and activities through weekly emails to the graduate student body and social media. This committee also develops materials to promote events and activities coordinated by other committees.
The Student Affairs Committee is part of the Graduate School Council seeking to provide student support and services, engage students through events and activities, and enhance student growth and development. We provide programming through social events and offer activities geared for improving the well-being of all graduate students. This committee is also responsible for considering issues related to international graduate students.
