Faculty and Staff

Dr. Michael Young is joining the Graduate School as a Faculty Associate for the 2022-23 academic year where he will assist with data-informed decision making, graduate education strategy development, with Graduate Council’s work on curriculum, program and student assessment.

 

Dr. Young came to K-State in 2012 as the Department Head of Psychological Sciences, a role he in which he served for 9 years. He received the K-State Presidential Award for Outstanding Department Head in 2020, is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, and served as chair of the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology – a national organization of department chairs and heads. His research and teaching interests are in decision making and quantitative modeling of behavior, and he has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Air Force Office for Scientific Research, and the Hershey Company.

Graduate Student Success

The Graduate School, International Student and Scholar Services, the Teaching and Learning Center, and many other campus entities have numerous events and opportunities scheduled Aug 15-26 to equip new and returning students with information to be successful in the academic year ahead. Some events are specifically for graduate students, and others are campus-wide events to welcome undergraduate and graduate students. Opportunities for Graduate Students

This fall, the Graduate School, Department of English, and the Writing Center are partnering to offer “Grad Wildcats Write,” a series of events to support graduate students in taking charge of their writing skills and habits. More details to come!

Funding for Graduate Students

  • Graduate Assistantship – Academic Achievement Center

    The Academic Achievement Center has a Graduate Assistantship opening in Academic Coaching. Academic Coaches work with all K-State students, especially students who are conditionally admitted to K-State and are assigned to the Academic Coaching program as an added layer of support for their first year on campus. The GA will meet 1-1 with students, facilitate outreach to students, participate in professional development, and facilitate workshops. The position description and application are available on the Academic Achievement Center website. Applicants can send a one-page cover letter, CV/Resume, and contact information for three references to Allison DuLac at adulac@ksu.edu.

  • Graduate Assistantship – Rural Grocery Initiative

    This Graduate Assistant (GA) position is an opportunity for a self-motivated, resourceful, experienced, and committed graduate student to bring creative energy and vision to a comprehensive food systems program at Kansas State University. The ideal candidate will have broad experience in or hold an undergraduate (and possibly master's) degree in fields related to food access, food systems, and/or community development. This candidate must be committed to issues of social justice and community engagement. This is a position that will work with an interdisciplinary team, with the opportunity to employ a variety of applied and community-based research methods. View the full position description (pdf). ARPA-E is looking for the next generation of scientific leaders to help solve the most pressing and exciting challenges in energy. The Fellows assist the agency in identifying possible breakthrough energy technologies through technical and economic analyses. During their two-year tenure, ARPA-E Fellows influence the direction of American energy innovation, engaging with world-class researchers in academia and industry, entrepreneurs, and government officials. Prior experience in energy and/or commercialization is not necessary.
