GPA requirement in science and mathematics courses

To graduate, a student must have a grade of C or better in all science and mathematics courses required for the degree, including transfer courses, as specified below. In addition, to graduate a student must have a 2.2 GPA in required science and mathematics courses taken at K-State.

Note: The courses in this list satisfy the natural sciences and quantitative reasoning requirements shown in the general requirements for the B.A. degree.

College of Arts & Sciences course requirements

English and Communication courses

Three courses, 8 credit hours minimum. Purpose: to give students practice in oral presentation and in writing and analyzing expository and argumentative prose.

Additional requirements for the B.A. degree in Biochemistry

K-State 8 (or UGE requirements for enrollment prior to fall 2011)
Course requirement guidelines

Each student must successfully complete credit-bearing courses/experiences to cover all of the K-State 8 areas (or UGE requirements). Some of these areas/courses may be covered in the student's major.

Note: The humanities and social sciences requirements of the College of Arts & Sciences along with our Biochemistry Major requirements will usually meet the UGE and/or the K-State-8 requirements.

Foreign language

Level 4 (i.e., French 4, German 4, Spanish 4, etc.) or the equivalent of level 4 in a foreign language sequence offered by the Department of Modern Languages. (Conversation ''4A'' courses do not meet the level 4 requirement.) [This qulaifies the degree holder for Phi Beta Kappa.]

Exception: Students who take a language that is normally offered for only two semesters (Latin 141 and 142, for example) may complete their requirement by taking two additional semesters in another language.

Total hours required for graduation = 120 credit hours.
