Reasonable Attendance Modification

A student who is registered with the Student Access Center may qualify for consideration for class absences due to their disability. Because attendance may be an integral part of the course, policies are set by each faculty at the college, departmental or individual level. The accommodation is simply a request for some flexibility in the policy. The amount of flexibility will depend on the nature of the class and whether class participation is a factor in the course requirements. Similarly, faculty also determine policies regarding make-up work and missed quizzes/exams.

This accommodation does not allow a student to miss a large number of classes for any given course. If a course grade is dependent on attendance, it is important that the student and faculty member discuss the issue so that the student can then make an informed decision about alternatives.
