Top 5 Well-being Tips From Students For Students

Putting yourself first isn't always easy, but it makes a world of difference. Students who invest in their physical and emotional well-being often see positive impacts in their academics, relationships with others, and other aspects of their lives.

But don't just take it from us.

We asked 'Cats to share their top tips for investing in themselves, and the campus resources that help support their well-being. Here's what they had to say:

1. Hanging out with friends and staying active can happen at the same time

Fitting in time to take care of yourself can be a challenge, especially when there's friends to see and things to do. That's why some K-Staters have combined the two -- and use the Rec Center as a spot to hang with friends.

  • “I enjoy going to the rec with my friends. We love taking fitness classes together and we recently tried the rock wall! Utilizing this campus resource has been a great way to take care of my well-being because it allows me to stay active while also doing something I genuinely enjoy. Going with my friends has made it even more fun and motivating because we can encourage each other and try new activities. I have realized that taking care of my wellbeing does not always have to feel like a chore, and spending time being active with people I enjoy makes it something I look forward to.”

  • “I utilize K-State’s recreational facilities quite often to stay physically active and take care of my mental well-being. These resources help me maintain a healthy balance during the school year and give me tools to take care of myself both physically and mentally.”

2. Make your well-being strategies work for you

Incorporating well-being into your routine only works if it is practical. Luckily, there are campus resources that make it easy to focus on what you need, and realistic strategies to make it work.

  • “I use TimelyCare throughout the school year to help manage stress and support my overall well-being. The app provides helpful resources such as hydration reminders, nutrition advice, and ideas for physical activities that I can incorporate into my routine.”

    Jenni Honorato
  • “I mainly use the Family Center for individual therapy sessions. My sessions are guided in ways for me to focus on better strategies to support my well-being and the ability to thrive.”

3. A good study spot can make schoolwork less of a drag (and maybe even fun?)

Sometimes, a change of location can turn a dreaded study session into an afternoon of productivity, and maybe a little fun, too!

Hale Library is a go-to spot for K-Staters when they need to buckle down and get stuff done.

  • “The reservable study spaces allow me to get out of my living space and get some quality studying done.”

    Sydney Robbins
  • “I love being able to have a quiet spot to study/do homework. I love the coffee shop as well as having other areas to meet with friends.”

    Hayley Wilbur

4. Lean in to campus tools to make taking care of yourself easier

Your physical health impacts every aspect of your life, but it’s not always easy to find a primary care provider, pharmacy or physical therapist. That’s why taking advantage of K-State’s Lafene Health Center can make such a difference.

  • “I have used Lafene since coming to Kansas State University. Coming to a new town, it is so hard to find a doctor or go home every time you are sick. So Lafene was amazing for doctor visits and all their other resources.”

5. Get Started During Health and Well-being Month
