Reinstatement

Policy and Process for Reinstatement:

University policy states, “Dismissed students will be readmitted only when approved for reinstatement by the Academic Standards Committee of the college the students are attempting to enter. Normally students must wait at least two semesters before being considered for reinstatement and are on academic warning at the time of readmission.” View the full policy here. “Two semesters” is defined as two regular semesters (Fall and Spring or Spring and Fall). This is done to provide students the time to evaluate and redefine educational goals, and to address circumstances that negatively impacted their academic performance. While waiting, dismissed students may complete courses at other institutions. Courses taken at other institutions will not change the K-State cumulative grade point average but may serve to demonstrate improved academic performance. There is no guarantee of readmission to K-State after the waiting period.

Extenuating circumstances that might be considered for earlier reinstatement are administrative error, military orders, death of immediate family member, divorce, natural disaster, personal health or serious family illness, and employment. Students must provide documentation of extenuating circumstances with their reinstatement application. That documentation can be through K-State offices such as Student Support and Accountability, Counseling Services, Student Access Center, Lafene Health Center, Office of Civil Rights and Title IX, or a letter from any outside health care provider.

If, after the waiting period, you wish to be considered for reinstatement to the Exploratory Studies program, please complete the Reinstatement Application form. Note: We do not reinstate students into summer terms.

If you wish to be reinstated into a major in another college at K-State, you must petition for reinstatement into that college. You can find the university and other college reinstatement resources at the Registrar's Reinstatement Resources page.

When you are ready to begin the reinstatement petition process, please contact ppac@ksu.edu and request to be connected to an Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor will assist you with selecting proposed courses and help you set academic goals.

Students petitioning for reinstatement must email all required materials to ppac@ksu.edu no later than 5 p.m. on the petition deadline for the semester into which they wish to be reinstated. Applications received after the deadline, or that are incomplete, will be returned without action.

Required materials include:

  • PPAC Reinstatement Application
  • Applicant Statement (recommend Word document)
  • Unofficial Transcripts (if applicable)
  • Documentation of any extenuating circumstances (if applicable)
