ADV 202: Professional KAAT Class Series

ADV 202 is a workshop-style class series designed for continuing and seasoned advisors to think critically about the student experience and enhance best practices. This cohort model allows for advisors to share their expertise and develop in the profession. Learning outcomes are intended to develop a deeper understanding of topics from K-State's advising vision, mission, and expectations. Credit will be awarded in HRIS upon completion.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Model various advising theories and approaches.
  • Address signs of distress related to belongingess, loneliness, depression, and finances.
  • Discuss how to make meaning of the college experience.
  • Identify ways to teach students skills for self-understanding and agency.
  • Review use of data literacy in advising.
  • Embrace a personal philosophy of advising.
  • Practice mechanics of presentation and publication development.
  • Demonstrate skills to help navigate difficult conversations.
  • Carry out a positive mentor experience for new advisors.

The target audience is continuing and seasoned advisors, year 2 and beyond.
