K-State Academic Advisor Training
ADV 202 is a workshop-style class series designed for continuing and seasoned advisors to think critically about the student experience and enhance best practices. Learning outcomes strengthen knowledge of K-State's advising mission, vision and expectations.

Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes include but are not limited to:
- Model various advising theories and approaches.
- Address signs of distress related to loneliness, depression, and finances.
- Discuss how to make meaning of the college experience.
- Identify ways to teach students skills for self-understanding and agency.
- Review use of of data literacy in advising.
- Embrace a personal philosophy of advising.
- Practice mechanics of presentation and publication development.
- Demonstrate skills to help navigate difficult conversations.
- Carry out a positive mentor experience for new advisors.
Credit and Attendance
- Successful completion of this class will result in HRIS credit and the Professional KAAT Certificate.
- Successful completion entails missing no more than 1 class meeting per semester* and full participation in the professional mentoring assignment.
*If you will miss a class, please let me know ahead of time if possible. I will work with you to make sure you get the missed content.

*Dates are subject to change. Advisors will be notified as soon as possible if changes are necessary.
Peer Mentoring
The Peer Mentoring assignment must be successfully completed in order to earn credit for the course.
- Advisors complete a mentor survey before class 1.
- Advisors are matched with a mentee and provided expectations during class 2.
- Advisors work with mentees to arrange 3 meetings (guidelines provided).
- Advisors debrief on experience in class 6.
- Process repeats with new mentee during 2nd semester.
