ADV 201: Professional KAAT Canvas Course

ADV 201 is a self-paced online training program designed for continuing advisors to delve deeper into the conceptual and relational components of K-State's advising vision, mission, and expectations. The modules utilize case studies to think critically on how to support student success. Credit will be awarded in HRIS upon completion.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe college student development theories.
  • Illustrate how to adapt advising approach to each student.
  • Recognize signs of distress related to belongingness, loneliness, depression, and finances.
  • Identify limitations and boundaries of adivising skills and role.
  • Develop a process for making successful referrals.
  • Create a plan to help students make meaning of the college experience and prepare for post-graduation experiences.
  • Implement strategies for advisor self-care.
  • Explain how to increase professional involvement through leadership and development.

The target audience is continuing and seasoned advisors, year 2 and beyond.
