Susan L. Allen, Ph.D., Director of Nonviolence Education Susan Allen has been with the Women's Center since 1993, serving as assistant director and editor of the newsletter, Women's Circle, before being appointed to the director's position in 1998. She holds a doctorate in media anthropology from the University of Kansas (1980) and published the first textbook in the new field combining anthropology and journalism (Media Anthropology: Informing Global Citizens, Bergin & Garvey) in 1994. Allen worked as a Research Intern at the East-West Center in Honolulu, as a legislative correspondent in Washington, D.C. for Senator Nancy Kassebaum, as a researcher in Japan, and in several positions at KSU before joining the Center. Other work interests include women's organizations and cooperatives, power dynamics, and justice issues. She continues to advocate for more context and perspective in the popular media in various ways. |
