Student Support and Accountability: New name, same support

Submitted by Laurel Moody

As announced on Oct. 2, the Office of Student Life has changed its name to Student Support and Accountability. This change better reflects the work done by the office, which has expanded the services provided to students and the university.

Student Support and Accountability has always provided conduct-related support to the university by chairing the Threat Management Policy as it pertains to student behaviors, as well as providing support to the judicial branch of the Student Governing Association, which adjudicates violations of the student code of conduct. On Aug. 1, K-State implemented three new policies pertaining to student organizations. As an expansion of these conduct-related responsibilities, Student Support and Accountability oversees the Student Organization Conduct Code and Process for Discipline, which addresses behavioral concerns within student organizations.

To provide administrative support to this policy, and using funding from previously unfilled positions, Alli Coleman has been hired as assistant dean and director of conduct.

Student Support and Accountability has also expanded support for students with new hires in several previously vacant positions. Janelle Rieger has been named assistant dean of students after having previously served as coordinator in the office. Kim YBarra and Devan Walker have joined the office serving as coordinators who jointly respond to student of concern referrals. Any member of the K-State community who is concerned about a student can easily submit a referral via the website as well as learn more about the referral process.

Amy Hall has joined the office in a permanent capacity as an absence verification specialist after having previously worked in the office in a temporary role.

Kayleigh Smith and Stef Delatorre are serving as case managers in partnership with Housing and Dining Services. Learn more about this non-clinic, skill-building and student-driven program on the case management website.
