Accessing disability-related accommodations with Student Access Center

Submitted by Jason Maseberg-Tomlinson

The Student Access Center supports students with disabilities — permanent or temporary — by arranging academic and housing accommodations. Eleven percent of college students nationwide identify as having a disability, and students with disabilities are enrolled in all K-State colleges and schools at all academic levels.

The Student Access Center is committed to providing equal access to all campus programs and services by collaborating with students and faculty to implement accommodations that meet the needs of students. You can register with the center to begin the accommodation process. After registering, you will be contacted by an access advisor to schedule a meeting. If you have documentation from a health care provider, you can submit it at any time in the registration process.

The Student Access Center maintains the privacy of your information: a student's diagnosis is not shared with others unless the student chooses to disclose it. Faculty are notified of the approved accommodations via email. There is no record of your history with the office in KSIS, in SSC-Navigate, or on your transcript.

To speak with an access advisor or learn more about the Student Access Center, stop by 202 Holton Hall, call 785-532-6441, or email accesscenter@k-state.edu.
