Weekly global religious, spiritual and nonreligious observance information

The President's Committee on Religion, Spirituality and Nonreligious Diversity presents the global observance information for Aug. 28-Sept. 3:

The Beheading of John the Baptist — Tuesday, Aug. 29. Tradition: Christianity-Orthodox. Commemorates the beheading of St. John the Baptist. Observed as a strict fast day.

Raksha Bandhan —  Wednesday, Aug. 30. Tradition: Hinduism. Also abbreviated to Rakhi, it is the Hindu festival that celebrates brotherhood and love. It is celebrated on the full moon in the month of Sravana in the lunar calendar.

The President's Committee on Religious, Spiritual and Nonreligious Diversity welcomes those of all global religious, spiritual and nonreligious commitments.
