Music faculty present research at national music teacher education conference

Submitted by Phillip Payne

Phillip Payne, assistant professor of music, Fred Burrack, associate professor of music, and Jana Fallin, professor of music education, presented "From Student to Teacher: Points of Development" and "Impact of Budget Cuts on Music Education in Kansas Schools' Kansas Music Educators" at the Biennial National Conference of the Society for Musc Teacher Education in Greensboro, N.C.

"From Student to Teacher: Points of Development" explored the current music education curriculum at Kansas State University as it related to the shifting of roles from student to classroom teacher for the music education major. The poster was presented in a best practice session for members of the society.

"Impact of Budget Cuts on Music Education in Kansas Schools' Kansas Music Educators" was a two-year study that examined the impact of the current economic climate on the job security and employment status of Kansas public schools on the hiring and retention of music educators. A subsequent webinar of the findings has resulted in a multi-state joint-research effort to determine the impact of the economic climate in the midwest region, including Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado.
