February 2014: Spring 2014 MPH Program Update.

April 2014: Governor's National Public Health Week Proclamation Dr. Mike Cates, MPH Director at Kansas State University, joined KDHE Secretary Moser and other public health colleagues and students from Kansas as Governor Brownback signed his proclamation for the upcoming National Public Health Week, April 7-13, 2014. Dr. Kimathi Choma, MPH Field Experience Facilitator, attended Topeka events in which both houses of the state’s legislature signed proclamations for National Public Health Week.

May 2014: Graduates. New MPH graduates include Jessica Bradford, Kaylee Hervey, Scott Hoffman, Dr. Abdunabi Kuchimov, Dr. Michael Moore, MaKenzie Simpson, Mylissia Smith, Dr. Vickie Smith and Patrick Steele, bringing the total number of MPH degrees awarded at K-State to 116. Graduate Certificate recipients include Elizabeth Grilliot and Jiena Gu, bringing the total number of certificate recipients to 22.

June 24, 2014: CEPH Accreditation. The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) notified President Schulz on June 24, 2014 that the Kansas State University Master of Public Health (MPH) program has been granted accreditation, effective immediately. The Kansas State University MPH program now joins the University of Kansas Medical Center’s MPH program as the only accredited programs in the state.

Dr. Mike Cates, the program director, was excited about the news: “Accreditation is a very welcomed acknowledgement by the experts at CEPH that Kansas State University has an extraordinary faculty team which provides an outstanding combination of public health instruction, research, service, extension, and workforce development.”

August 21, 2014: The MPH program welcomed new and continuing students as well as MPH faculty at their orientation in Trotter Hall. Dr. Cates' presentation to the group can be see here: MPH Orientation for New and Returning Students Presentation.

August 2014 Graduates: Congratulations to our four new graduates, who completed their MPH degree in August 2014: Brooke Cull (Public Health Nutrition), Leslie Engleman (Infectious Diseases/Zoonoses), Jason Orr (Infectious Diseases/Zoonoses), and Amanda Rall (Public Health Nutrition).

September 2014: After receiving accreditation this summer by CEPH, the MPH Program has had a great start for the fall semester, with 24 new students, the largest cohort in a single semester since the beginning of the program in 2003. There are currently 67 students enrolled in classes this semester. With the four individuals receiving their MPH degree in August, the program has had a total of 21 graduates for Academic Year 2014 and 120 in the history of the program. December 2014: Graduates. The five new MPH graduates include Zaher Al-Bashahbsheh (Public Health Nutrition), Hayley Collins (Infectious Diseases/Zoonoses), Dr. Jennifer Engel (Infectious Diseases/Zoonoses), Elizabeth Grilliot (Public Health Physical Activity), and Ellen Heinrich (Infectious Diseases/Zoonoses), bringing the total number of MPH degrees awarded at K-State to 125.
