Essentials of Food and Agricultural Crisis Communications Planning
Jason Ellis, assistant professor of agricultural communication and journalism
Kansas State University

An expert on crisis communication, Ellis will provide seminar participants with some tips
on how to communicate effectively when crisis strikes.

The BRI - From New Construction to Fully Functional
Scott Rusk, director of operations, Pat Roberts Hall
Kansas State University

Rusk will discuss the evolution of the Biosecurity Research Institute. Focus topics include
business modeling, operational assurances, risk assessment, risk communication, community
outreach and regulatory compliance. He will make general analogies to the development of
the new National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), provide a brief update on that
project's status and describe current efforts on the NBAF's site-specific risk assessment.
