Alternative Text

Students with the accommodation of alternative text in most cases, require an accessible digital copy of the text. Text can then be read aloud by text-to-speech or a screen reader. K-State has a site license for Read&Write which is available to students, faculty, and staff. One of the features of Read&Write is text-to-speech. This is the program that is utilized in the SAC Testing Center. For textbooks, SAC works directly with students to ensure that textbooks are provided in the appropriate format.

Faculty should be aware that students who use text-to-speech or screen reader software will need their course materials, such as documents uploaded to Canvas, provided to them in an accessible format. Faculty can refer to the Online Environment section of our website to obtain instructions on how to make documents and/or presentations accessible to students.
