Registration open for Three Minute Thesis competition and K-State GRAD Forum

Submitted by Michael Sellman

Graduate students from all disciplines are invited to showcase their work at research forum events in the spring 2024 semester. Registration is open for the annual Three Minute Thesis competition, or 3MT, and for the K-State Graduate Research, Arts, and Discovery Forum, or K-GRAD.

The 3MT is an academic competition in which graduate students are challenged by presenting a compelling oration on their graduate research. In just three minutes using a single, static slide, participants must explain their research and its significance to an audience of non-experts. Developing these communication skills is a valuable way to make graduate students more competitive on the job market.

Dec. 18 is the deadline for graduate students to register for the 3MT. All registrants will participate in the first round of competition on Feb. 7, 2024, in the K-State Student Union.

Up to 12 participants will be selected for the final round or competition at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2024, in the K-State Student Union, in which judges will select first- and second-place winners. Audience members will also select a participant for a people's choice award.

The first-place winner will go on to represent K-State at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT Competition on April 5, 2024.

More information and the registration form can be found on the 3MT website.

Graduate students from all disciplines are also invited to take part in the annual K-State Graduate Research, Arts, and Discovery, or K-GRAD, Forum.

K-GRAD is an opportunity for graduate students to share their research and scholarly work with the K-State community and gain experience in presenting their work within a professional setting. It's also an opportunity for grad students to develop communication and presentation skills.

The K-GRAD Forum registration deadline is Jan. 31, 2024. Oral presentations will be March 19 in the K-State Student Union, and poster presentations will be March 20, 2024, also in the Union.

For more information on the forum and to register, visit the K-GRAD Forum website.

For questions about the 3MT or K-State GRAD Forum, contact Megan Miller, assistant director of graduate student success, at mmmiller@k-state.edu or 785-532-6191.
