International Education Week 2023 concludes

Submitted by Grant Chapman

International Education Week 2023 concludes Friday, Nov. 17 for Kansas State University, the state and the nation.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education as an opportunity to annually celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. The state of Kansas recognized International Education Week 2023 through the Nov. 13 signed proclamation of Gov. Laura Kelly.

During International Education Week, K-State's Office of International Programs partnered with units and departments around K-State to provide 15 events and experiences attended by hundreds of individuals from the campus, community and around the world.

In addition, the Office of International Programs recognized Mona Menking, director of Global Education Outreach in the College of Education, as International Educator of the Year; Konza Student Table of the Food and Farm Council of Riley County and city of Manhattan as the International Innovative Education Program of the Year; and the study abroad program of the First-generation Student Center for the Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award.

The Office of International Programs leads and supports the university for comprehensive internationalization and global engagement. The office is responsible for education abroad, the English Language Program, international partnerships, international sponsored students, and international student and scholar services.

An important part of comprehensive internationalization is hosting international students at K-State. International students add much to the university community, including diversity of thought, culture and language. International students studying in Kansas contributed more than $246 million and supported 1767 jobs to the Kansas economy during the 2022-23 academic year.

The Office of International Programs is re-imaging comprehensive internationalization and global engagement to align with the Next-Gen K-State strategic plan vision that K-State will lead the nation as a next-generation land-grant university — setting the standard for inspiring learning, creativity, discovery and engagement that positively impacts society and transforms lives.
