Lecture on the life, art and math of Obata, Asawa and Nakamura on Nov. 9

Natasha Rozhkovskaya, professor of mathematics at K-State, will present a lecture on artists Kazuo Nakamura and Ruth Asawa and architect Gyo Obata from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in 181 Hale Library and via Zoom. See the seminar webpage for more information.
Asawa's, Nakamura's and Obata's early career years were shaped by the 1942 Executive Order of Internment. Uniting them in a different way is a thread of math influence on their work. Join the lecture to discover the interaction of art, mathematics and history.
Rozhkovskaya is a co-author of a monograph on representation theory and the author of three books based on her teaching experience of mathematics to various groups of students: "Math Circles for Elementary School Students," "Blue Book of Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers," and "M is for Math, Museum and Manhattan," based on math and art workshops for school students at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art.
The lecture is a joint event co-organized by the K-State First Book lecture series and the Art and Math Seminar, hosted by the mathematics department at Kansas State University.
