Larson receives excellence in advising award

Submitted by Patrice Scott

Lotta Larson
Lotta Larson, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, is the recipient of the spring 2023 Kathryn A. Holen Excellence in Advising Award.

The award is reserved for faculty members who excel in advising students. Nominees are evaluated on several criteria, including sensitivity to cultural, racial and ethnic diversity; displaying a caring attitude toward students; encouraging student growth; and developing and mentoring relationships.

"Working with doctoral students is extremely rewarding," Larson said. "Each graduate student is a unique individual, representing a different background, interests and experiences. They come to the College of Education with a dream of earning an advanced degree, and it is my privilege to support them throughout their journey."

Larson is a pillar in the reading specialist and Master of Arts in Teaching programs, where she teaches literacy-related courses and supports graduate students in their pursuit of becoming highly effective educators. She advises master's, Ph.D. and Ed.D students.
