October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, will have events throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month to bring the K-State community together to show its support for victims/survivors of domestic violence.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month was first recognized in 1987 with the goal of bringing advocates across the nation together to bring an end to domestic violence for good. It is an opportunity for advocates, victims/survivors and supporters to come together and show solidarity and support for those impacted.
The themes of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this year are "No Justice without Racial Justice" and "Every1 Knows Some1".
Please join CARE for its outreach events throughout the month, including our campaign event "These Hands Don’t Hurt." CARE will offer paper purple hands for students, staff and faculty to sign messages of support to survivors of domestic violence. CARE will be at the K-State Student Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following days:
- Monday, Oct. 10.
- Thursday, Oct. 13.
- Tuesday, Oct. 18.
- Friday, Oct. 21.
- Monday, Oct. 24.
- Thursday, Oct. 27.
In addition to Domestic Violence Awareness Month, CARE will also participate in National Coming Out Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, with the LGBTQ Resource Center. The week of Oct. 16 will begin CARE's Week of Action for Domestic Violence. We ask everyone in the K-State community to participate in our Purple-Out for Domestic Violence on Thursday, Oct. 20. CARE staff is available from 8-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. CARE is a confidential, free resource for students, staff and faculty experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence and sexual harassment.
