Annual fire hydrant testing begins May 9

Submitted by Adam Ukena

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety will begin annual fire hydrant testing on Monday, May 9, on the Manhattan campus.

Fire flow tests are conducted on hydrants to determine water availability in planning for firefighting activities, fire sprinkler systems or domestic water demand. The tests also are useful in determining the general condition of the water distribution system by detecting closed valves or wall deposits.

During testing, fluctuations in pressure may occur, as well as discolored water. If this happens, please allow water to run until clear.
