David Ben-Arieh retires after 32 years

Kansas State University's industrial and manufacturing systems engineering department will honor retiring professor David Ben-Arieh with a reception from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the IMSE conference room, 2064 Rathbone Hall.

Colleagues and friends are invited to attend. No program is expected, but a light lunch will be available.

Ben-Arieh earned his doctorate in industrial engineering from Purdue University and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial engineering from Ben-Gurion University in Israel. Before joining the K-State faculty, Ben-Arieh served as a member of the technical staff for the AT&T Bell Laboratory.

He has been an active researcher who has made important advancements in several areas, including quantitative decision-making, modeling complex systems, production and process planning, and health care operations. He has published more than 100 journal articles and book chapters and 150 papers in refereed conference proceedings and earned one patent.

Ben-Arieh has been a strong positive influence on industrial engineering students and the student-centered culture in the industrial and manufacturing systems engineering department. He has been an active leader, instructor and advisor to students in the distance-based master’s degrees in engineering management and industrial engineering. Ben-Arieh has led the industrial and manufacturing systems engineering graduate program committee for many years, leading the recruitment of new graduate students and advising the industrial and manufacturing systems engineering graduate student council.

His research, teaching and service contributions have significantly advanced the department and all its degree programs during the last 32 years. Join the department in recognizing Ben-Arieh’s outstanding contributions and celebrating the career of a valued colleague and friend.
