Student Senate weekly update

Submitted by Blake Phillips

Good morning, Wildcats!

Student Senate met on Thursday, Oct. 7. During the meeting, Student Senate voted on several pieces of legislation and introduced others. Student Senate approved two more appointments to the Educational Opportunity Fund Committee. Additionally, Student Senate approved changing the current student body presidential election system to an instant runoff voting format, which will eliminate the primary election.

Student Senate also approved changes to the Student Governing Association Constitution regarding spelling and grammar errors and voted to consolidate how Student Senate votes on allocations from the Travel and On-Campus Allocations committees. During the meeting, Student Senate voted and failed a bill that would remove faculty positions from Student Senate due to good communication between SGA and faculty through various channels.

After voting, Student Senate introduced legislation to provide on-campus funds to the Creative Arts Therapies Students, legislation to provides travel funds to the Associated General Contractors of America, and legislation to transfer funds from the Student Centered Tuition Enhancements Committee reserve account to the Educational Opportunity Fund Committee reserve account to help balance the two accounts.

Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
