North 17th Street on Manhattan campus renamed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

Submitted by University Operations

The K-State campus portion of North 17th Street between Anderson Avenue and Claflin Road was renamed North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive effective March 22. This street runs past Ahearn Field House where King delivered one of his last speeches on Jan. 19, 1968.

Campus buildings along this corridor have new addresses and building occupants have been notified. Departments should make changes to addresses on websites, email signatures, business cards, letterhead and other printed materials. Affected departments can use current supplies of printed materials used for up to one year. Updates to campus maps and GIS are underway.

The city of Manhattan and Kansas State University elected to honor Martin Luther King Jr. with the renaming.
