Nicholas Wallace will present this week's DMP Seminar

Submitted by Brandy Nowakowski

Nicholas Wallace, assistant professor in the Division of Biology at K-State, will present, "Human Papillomavirus Oncogenes Hinder DNA Repair" at 3:30 Thursday, March 11, via Zoom

Wallace received his doctorate from Tulane University. The mission of the Wallace Lab is to improve therapies for cancers caused by viruses by leveraging knowledge of how viral proteins manipulate cells and evaluating putative oncogenic viruses and drugs that could be effective against these tumors. Specifically, the Wallace lab characterizes repair deficiencies cause by human papillomavirus, or HPV, oncogenes from Alpha and Beta HPV genera. Alpha HPVs are causative agents in a host of anogenital and oropharyngeal tumors that kill someone every 90 seconds. Beta HPVs have a more tenuous connection to non-melanoma skin cancers. Wallace's work is supported by funds from the Department of Defense, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of General Medical Science, and the Johnson Cancer Research Center.
