Johnson Cancer Research Center fall award applications due Oct. 1
Kansas State University's Johnson Cancer Research Center is now accepting applications for its fall semester awards for faculty and students.
The center supports the innovative and collaborative research of its faculty members in 20 departments across five colleges, as well as the training of their undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Center faculty members are eligible to apply for awards and sponsor applications of their students. K-State faculty who do cancer-relevant research but are not members of the center are invited to apply for membership by contacting the center's director, Sherry Fleming, at sdflemin@k-state.edu.
Being offered to faculty this fall are Innovative Research Awards, which provide seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for major grant proposals, and a Cancer Research Collaboration of Excellence Award — formerly Center of Excellence Award.
Also being offered are modest travel awards for faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows for travel to learn new scientific techniques, visit collaborators or present at meetings.
For undergraduate students, the center offers Cancer Research Awards. This fall, the center will broaden its support to include two non-STEM cancer research projects. Awardees will work on research projects during the spring semester and receive $1,500 awards in late spring. Mentors receive $1,000 per student for research expenses. Students must apply along with a faculty mentor.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center, which is part of Kansas State University's College of Arts and Sciences, supports and advances cancer research, education, training and public outreach. Its awards are funded by private donations.
