Education majors can participate in interviews, virtual career fair on same day
Teachers are in demand, and future teachers have two great options for finding an employer — and they're both happening on March 2. One is on-campus interviews; the other is a virtual career fair.
More than 70 school districts from across the country will participate in the Education On-Campus Interviews from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum. Students must sign up for interview slots in Handshake before Feb. 25. For more information about the on-campus interviews, please call the Career Center at 785-532-6506.
Pat Hudgins, associate director of the Career Center, advised future teachers to dress professionally and bring several copies of their resumes.
"This is an amazing opportunity for future teachers to meet with representatives from a number of districts and see what's out there in terms of employment opportunities," Hudgins said. "They can also get a sense of where they'd fit and learn more about districts they hadn’t considered before which is exactly what our on-campus interviews are all about."
The other option is the Educate Kansas Virtual Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST also on March 2. Education majors, as well as anyone interested in potentially teaching in Kansas, can take advantage of this fantastic — and free — opportunity to visit with administrators from more than 90 school districts across the state.
Thomas Vontz, College of Education professor of curriculum and instruction, encourages all future teachers to participate in the virtual career fair.
"Not only should seniors participate, but I believe even students who are two or three years away from student teaching should register because they can meet with hiring managers and determine if they may be a fit for that district," Vontz said. "This virtual career fair is about networking and planting seeds for your career. It literally could not be easier or less expensive."
The virtual career fair is offered in collaboration with the Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas Education Employment Board, the Kansas State University College of Education, the Kansas Troops to Teachers program and Fort Hays State University.
