Like pets? Volunteer at the Petfood R&D Showcase

Submitted by Stephanie Pierce

Kansas State University will host the fifth annual Petfood R&D Showcase Oct. 15-17. Students are invited to volunteer and/or attend the workshop.

The showcase will kick off at the K-State Alumni Center with an evening reception on Tuesday, Oct. 15. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, university faculty will share research from their specific areas that have direct connections to pet food producers and suppliers, which they can implement in the near future. Presentations by industry sponsors regarding real-time technology application to pet foods and processes will follow. The day will be capped by a student poster session in which they will share their academic research in conjunction with a reception and networking activity. As an extra, options for a "Dine-Around" will be available in which hosts will engage participants in specific topics in a relaxed dining experience.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, the showcase will move to the K-State Grain Science Complex on the north edge of campus. Events will include hands-on demonstrations of the technology hosted by key industry sponsors that will explore new ideas and how they work in actual product applications.

The showcase will provide ample opportunities for faculty and students to interact and network with industry professionals. More than 120 industry and university representatives attended the 2018 Petfood R&D Showcase.

Student volunteers will do the following at the showcase:

  • Interact with industry representatives by guiding them to and from workshop locations.
  • Network with companies during workshops.
  • Learn about job opportunities within companies and potential interviews.
  • Showcase your work at the Research Poster Session from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.
  • Help host participants and industry representatives at the Dine-Around Manhattan event.

If interested, complete the volunteer form.
