Chapman Center hosts Student Research Showcase May 11

Submitted by Maggie Cody

The Chapman Center for Rural Studies invites students, faculty, staff and the public to its 2019 student research showcase from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 in Rooms 107-112 Leasure Hall.

Students will present the innovative research they completed this semester in addition to exhibits of our digital projects, refreshments and more. This year's round up includes new research on Clyde Cessna of aviation and agricultural fame, the lost town of Rock, Kansas, digital preservation of an original diary through Optical Character Recognition software and an overview and interpretation of first hand experiences narrated by several Vietnam veterans who call Kansas home.

The annual Chapman Center for Rural Studies Student Research Showcase is an opportunity to celebrate and share our students' work with K-State and our public history communities. We also gratefully recognize donors and the engaged community members who invest in our students to help them develop the personal confidence and professional skills they will need in their future careers.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to chapmancenter@k-state.edu or 785-532-0380 by 5 p.m. April 15.

The Chapman Center for Rural Studies is a digital humanities research lab Center for Excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences. Its mission is to research, preserve, and share the history and lived experiences of rural Kansas. It accomplishes this through undergraduate interdisciplinary research projects, building partnerships with the K-State community and engaging a rich network of historical museums and public history organizations in the state of Kansas.
