Nekrasov to present 31st Isidore and Hilda Dressler Lecture

Submitted by Reta McDermott

Nikita Nekrasov, professor at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University, will present the 31st Isidore and Hilda Dressler Lecture titled "Classical and Quantum Geometry from Gauge Theory" as part of the Mathematics Department Colloquium Lecture series. The lecture will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in 1014 Throckmorton Hall.

The abstract for the lecture is: Donaldson found invariants of four-manifolds by studying topology of moduli spaces of solutions to partial differential equations coming from Yang-Mills theory. The supersymmetric version of this theory admits an exactly solvable formulation which allows to study the elusive notion of emergent geometry, and its quantization — the Holy Graal of quantum theory of gravity. This formulation and its generalizations will be discussed in the lecture.

The math department is a part of K-State's College of Arts and Sciences. To learn more about opportunities in math at K-State, visit math.ksu.edu.
