Mental health in health care: Considerations for patients and providers seminar

Join the K-State athletic training program in recognizing National Athletic Training Month at a seminar at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the K-State Alumni Center.

The Athletic Training Month Seminar will feature both a keynote speaker as well as a panel discussion. It will focus on the role of mental health in health care, and considerations for patients and providers.

Rick Burkholder, vice president of sports medicine and performance for the Kansas City Chiefs, will give the keynote address. 

On the panel:

  • Kyle Goerl, associate medical director, K-State Athletics team physician, Lafene Health Center. 
  • Anne Weese, director of mental wellness and sports psychology, K-State Athletics. 
  • Evan Craft, assistant athletic trainer, Kansas City Chiefs. 
  • Carina Metzgar, athletic trainer and student, University of Denver, Sport and Performance Psychology program.
  • Keith Wright, family practice physician, K-State Athletics team physician, Stonecreek Family Physicians.
  • Joe Stonecypher, master resilience trainer-performance expert, R2 Training Center. 
  • Ashley Rencher, master resilience trainer-performance expert; R2 Training Center. 

Student and community professionals can register for free in advance or $5 at the door. Professionals looking to earn continuing education units can register for $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Registration is available online

The National Athletic Training Month is hosted every March to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers. This year's theme is "ATs are Health Care."
