New Faculty Institute to host luncheon on Feb. 20

Submitted by Tamara Bauer

The New Faculty Institute will host a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Flint Hills Room at the K-State Student Union.

The topic of the luncheon will be "Teaching, Research and Student Engagement."

Join the New Faculty Institute for a catered lunch followed by interactive round-table sessions. Participants will have the option to select two of the three sessions. One session will be focused on engaged teaching practices — "What do great teachers do?" A second session will be understanding the needs of students today — "What do I wish my professors knew?" A third session will focus on research at K-State — "What resources are available and what are some best practices?"

RSVP online by noon Monday, Feb. 18.

The New Faculty Institute is for faculty in their first or second year at K-State. The New Faculty Institute is a universitywide program sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Center to introduce newly hired faculty to K-State's missions of teaching, research and service, and to facilitate their success at the university. The institute facilitates the transition of newly hired faculty members into the K-State academic environment by providing information and tools that can help them become successful as educators and researchers at K-State. Each month, the institute offers social gatherings filled with information, networking and food.

Upcoming events:

  • Monday, March 25, 8:15-9:30 a.m. in 201 Leadership Studies Building. Topic: "Being and becoming a college teacher: Exploring professional identity development." RSVP online by noon Wednesday, March 20.
  • Monday, April 15, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Flint Hills Room at K-State Student Union. Topic: "Time with President Richard Myers." RSVP online by noon Wednesday, April 10.
